Renaissance Program
Director: Omar Fassi
Offered Fall of 2010 from 3:45-4:45
Amicitia’s Renaissance Program offers enrichment in the area of arts for our students. While music and art are part of the core curriculum, students may pursue more in-depth study in our after-school Renaissance Program.
Improvements in math, reading, critical thinking, cognitive reasoning and verbal skills as well as improvements in motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork are associated with involvements in the arts. A 2005 report by the Rand Corporation about the visual arts argues that the arts “can connect people more deeply to the world and open them to new ways of seeing.”
Each session a variety of arts classes are offered such as poetry, drawing, drama, guitar, sports and more. Classes are open to non-Amicitia students. See updated schedule for a list of current Renaissance courses.

Modern Dance:
Guitar for Beginners (grades 3-12):
(Exceptions for pilot 2009-10 for first and second grade students)
Guitar for Beginners is a course suited for the novice guitar player. During the six weeks of sessions the musicians will learn: the parts of the guitar, the steps to tune a guitar, the names of the strings, basic chords, and a short song. Guitar for Beginners requires that each musician furnish a guitar of appropriate size and function for the student along with patience and focus to master the motor skills and information presented during the sessions.
If the musicians practice for 20 minutes three days a week, during the six week session, following the exercises presented in sessions they will be able to advance to private lessons provided as instructors are available.

Speech and Theatre:
The Speech and Theatre class instructs students in the basics of the Craft and encourages them to hone their latent or developed skills in presentations. Comfortability in front of an audience, projection, the Method, and role immersion will be emphasized. Depending on student involvement, students will be encouraged to learn how to write and present various types of speeches. An end-year performance is the goal, dependent on abilities and time. Plays, skits, and speeches will be determined based on student abilities, number of students, and student interests. Appropriate and audience-tailored communication skills will be emphasized. This class will provide the student with comfortability in a speaking environment, and should assist in future public speaking endeavors in college and the business world.
